In July 2023, Smafybin carried out a major installation of 100 smart solar compactor garbage cans in Madrid. These garbage cans, designed to improve the efficiency and sustainability of urban waste management, were located in various areas of the city, including Carabanchel, Fuencarral, Hortaleza, Latina, Moratalaz, Usera, San Blas, Villaverde, Puente de Vallecas and Villa de Vallecas.
The installation included 90 garbage cans for packaging and 10 for other waste. Each garbage can has a capacity of 200 liters and is 100% solar powered, reducing collection frequency and minimizing carbon emissions. This initiative not only seeks to improve cleanliness and waste management in Madrid, but also to promote a greener and more sustainable image of the city.
In addition to their compacting capacity, these garbage cans are equipped with sensors that monitor the fill level in real time, allowing for more efficient management of collection routes. Connectivity and real-time data management capabilities are key elements that optimize urban planning and reduce operating costs.
This effort is in line with other initiatives of the Madrid City Council to rehabilitate inter-block spaces and promote sustainable management. The installation of these solar garbage cans is another step towards transforming Madrid into a cleaner, greener and more sustainable city.
These solar garbage cans not only optimize waste management, but also have a positive impact on urban aesthetics and the environmental awareness of citizens. By reducing the number of collections required, they reduce traffic disruptions and help keep streets cleaner and safer.
The garbage cans are corrosion resistant, which ensures durability and a lower environmental impact, increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs.
